Trait ascription bias

Description

The tendency for people to view themselves as relatively variable in terms of personality, behavior, and mood while viewing others as much more predictable.

Example 1:

A manager sees their own reactions to business situations as nuanced and context-dependent, but views a colleague's reactions as consistently stemming from a fixed personality trait (e.g., "They are always pessimistic").

Example 2:

A manager might see their own varying leadership styles as adaptive, but view a colleague's similar variability as inconsistency or indecisiveness.
