Status quo bias

Description

A preference for the current state of affairs. The current baseline (or status quo) is taken as a reference point, and any change from that baseline is perceived as a loss.

Example 1:

A company may resist adopting a new, more efficient software system because employees are comfortable with the old system, even if the new one offers significant advantages.

Example 2:

A company might continue using an outdated but familiar software system, despite the availability of more efficient modern alternatives, due to the perceived effort and risk of switching.
