What Should We Remember?

We store memories differently based on how they were experienced

Next–in–line effect

Description

A phenomenon in which a person in a group has diminished recall for the words of the person who spoke immediately before them, due to preoccupation with their own upcoming turn to speak.

Example 1:

In a roundtable meeting where each person gives an update, an employee might not fully absorb what the person before them is saying because they are mentally preparing their own update.

Example 2:

In a round-robin team meeting where everyone gives an update, individuals might be so focused on preparing what they are going to say that they don't fully process or remember what the person just before them said.
