Naïve cynicism

Description

A cognitive bias and form of psychological egoism that occurs when people expect more egocentric bias in others than is actually the case.

Example 1:

An employee might assume their colleagues are only motivated by self-interest when offering help, underestimating genuine altruism or team spirit.

Example 2:

When negotiating a deal, a manager might assume the other party is solely motivated by self-interest and is being dishonest, leading to an overly aggressive and distrustful negotiation stance.
