Misinformation effect

Description

A phenomenon in which exposure to misleading information presented between the encoding of an event and its subsequent recall causes impaired memory for the original event.

Example 1:

After witnessing a workplace incident, if employees discuss it and one introduces an incorrect detail, others might later incorporate that misinformation into their own recollections.

Example 2:

After witnessing a workplace incident, if employees discuss it among themselves, information shared by one person (which might be inaccurate) can alter another's memory of what they actually saw.
