Information bias

Description

The tendency to seek information even when it cannot affect action.

Example 1:

A manager might spend excessive time gathering more data and reports before making a decision, even when they already have sufficient information to act, delaying the decision unnecessarily.

Example 2:

A manager might request numerous detailed reports and analyses before making a decision, even if the additional information is unlikely to change their ultimate course of action, delaying the decision unnecessarily.
