Essentialism

Description

The view that objects have a set of attributes that are necessary to their identity and function. In social contexts, this can lead to stereotyping.

Example 1:

Believing that people from a certain country are "naturally" better at a specific type of work, ignoring individual variation and learned skills.

Example 2:

A company might believe that "creative types" are inherently disorganized, leading to mismanagement of innovative teams by imposing overly rigid structures.
