Dunning–Kruger effect

Description

A cognitive bias whereby people with low ability at a task overestimate their ability. It is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority and comes from the inability of individuals to recognize their lack of ability.

Example 1:

An inexperienced employee might believe they are performing exceptionally well and require little supervision, unaware of their mistakes and areas needing improvement.

Example 2:

An inexperienced employee might confidently undertake a complex task they are not qualified for, underestimating its difficulty and their own limitations, leading to poor outcomes.
