Confirmation bias

Description

The tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one's preexisting beliefs or hypotheses.

Example 1:

A hiring manager who has an initial positive impression of a candidate may selectively focus on information that supports this impression during the interview, ignoring red flags.

Example 2:

A CEO who believes a particular market expansion will be successful may unconsciously seek out and prioritize reports and opinions that support this view, while downplaying or dismissing contradictory data.
